DEDAN KIMATHI FOUNDATION KIAMWERI BEAT 10,000 TREE GROWING EXERCISE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KFS.

For a country holding an ambitious 15 billion tree-forest-restoration plan within 10 years, series of sustainable tree growing activities must be made a norm. All patriotic individuals, groups, government agencies and non-governmental organization must march to the fields creating new Aberdares in every part of the country.

Dedan Kimathi Foundation has today, Thursday 1st February 2024, completed a 10, 000 indigenous tree growing exercise at Kiamweri Beat in South Kinangop Forest; a continuation of the two-day exercise held on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th February 2024.The noble exercise was conducted in Collaboration with Kenya Forest Service and South Kinangop Forest Community Forest Association (CFA) members.

With high soil moisture content due to the rains being experienced in the region, reforestation activities are ongoing as high survival rate is assured. Farmers allocated the pieces of forest lands are lead caregivers to the trees hence maximum survival is guaranteed.

Addressing the participants after the tedious activity, Dedan Kimathi Foundation environment team leader emphasized on the need to plant and take care of trees as a way of rematching the rainfall patterns, increasing rainfall frequency and mitigation of climate change negative effects through carbon absorption and storage. In addition, he requested all the participants to put at least 30% of their lands and farms under tree cover to reduce pressure of forest goods from the gazetted forests.
