In as much as tree growing remains a highly demanding process to sustain high survival rates, tree planting sessions have always been moments of utmost excitement. The exercises bring together individuals, groups and agencies of very different operation modes to a mother-nature conserving collaboration.

Songs are sang, jokes are told, interactions are heightened and friends are made in addition to long-lasting commitments of unity to conserve the environment.

I can’t recall the number of times my heart has been melt by engaging young children in growing trees whose benefits are not clear to them. They do it anyway. Pupils and students enthusiasm as they plant gives me unmatched pleasure. Kenya Defence Forces Soldiers leaving the barracks to give a hand in growing trees in our public spaces has always left me admiring their great love for the nation; they add value to it besides protecting its boundaries. Inmates great input in the same rejuvenates my being. Tertiary students involvement in the exercises despite their busy school schedules awes me all the time. National Youth Service youngsters hardworking nature in nation building through tree planting assures me of a very promising future as the scouts calm me with their call to conserve nature.

Tasked with forest protection and leading the nation towards tree cover increase, Kenya Forest Service fraternity passion in this noble work is a complete show of commitment. The rangers’ high spirits during planting exercises and undying desire to make Kenya greener make me love nature more. Dedan Kimathi Foundation environment conservation team of energetic volunteers alias the Green Army since 2019 gives me a thousand of reasons not to give up on sustainable tree growing as their mentor and source of Motivation.

I call tree planting the opium of the Dedan Kimathi Foundation as it has a mind cooling effect in it. The fresh air in the planting areas as a result of the already growing trees, the calming shade cast by the trees, the soothing chirping of birds in the nests as if appreciating new planting sessions and the trespassing sun rays warming the earth surface motivate me to grow thousands more.

With emphasis on the significance of trees as the most efficient tools to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change, tree growing is a self-fulfiling activity availing a good nation building platform for the patriotic Kenyans.

It is highly significant for all the tree growing individuals and groups to conduct mass tree growing activities currently as the soil moisture content is high due to the heavy downpour taking place in most of the regions. This calls for immediate resumption of tree growing.
