Together for the Mau as We Champion Environmental Restoration

October 24, 2025 – Kuresoi North, Baringo Secondary School

Dedan Kimathi Foundation (DKF) proudly participated in the Mau Conservation Marathon 2025, which took place at Baringo Secondary School in Kuresoi North. Organized by the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, the event gathered stakeholders from across Kenya to raise awareness and mobilize support for the restoration of the Mau Forest Complex, one of the country’s most crucial ecological assets.

Strengthening Partnerships for Environmental Sustainability

Leading the DKF Environment Team, CEO Evelyn Kimathi reaffirmed the Foundation’s continued partnership in the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihoods Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP). Through this initiative, DKF has committed to providing one million assorted tree seedlings annually in support of the 10-year restoration plan under the patronage of Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Environment and Climate Change.

The Mau Forest Complex serves as Kenya’s most vital water tower, sustaining millions of livelihoods through its crucial role in water regulation, biodiversity preservation, tourism, and agriculture. Its conservation remains key to ensuring sustainable development, climate resilience, and environmental stability across the region.

At Dedan Kimathi Foundation, our mission is firmly anchored in the principles of environmental stewardship, community empowerment, and sustainable development; values that echo the rich legacy of Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi. Our ongoing participation in national restoration initiatives demonstrates our unwavering belief that genuine freedom is safeguarded through a profound and responsible commitment to nurturing both the land and the communities that rely upon it. Through our work, we aspire to create a lasting impact that honors the heritage of leadership and resilience while fostering a harmonious relationship between nature and the people it sustains.

Together with our partners, we remain committed to restoring ecosystems, empowering communities, and nurturing a greener, more resilient Kenya for generations to come.
