DKF Participates in ‘Indigenous  Tree Day’ Planting at Catholic University of Eastern Africa

In numbers, Dedan Kimathi Foundation environment conservation team attended the Inaugural Indigenous Tree Day event at Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Karen, Nairobi. This day has been recently set aside to enhance biodiversity preservation. The team made the most out of the day to inspire the university Geography Club students to stand up and play an active role in climate change mitigation through sustainable tree growing.

A total of 1,000 assorted tree seedlings donated by KDF Thika Engineers Brigade under its active partnership with the Foundation were planted in the University sports grounds. This was after a two-hour climate change talk at the University Missio Hall in which Dedan Kimathi Foundation CEO, Ms. Evelyn W Kimathi, challenged the participant’s of the day’s activity to see beyond today and appreciate nature by growing trees voluntarily in support of the government’s 30% national tree cover by 2032. In recognition of the vital role of the forests in ecosystem balance and human and animal survival, she called for concerted efforts to ”Bring Aberdares to Our Homes” simply meaning immediate action to green every corner of the nation.
