A Green Movement for Ngong River

The rivers of Nairobi—once flowing with life and sustaining entire ecosystems—are now struggling to breathe. Choked by pollution, encroachment, and years of neglect, these lifelines of the city urgently need our attention. That is why we are inviting you to be part of a powerful movement to reclaim, restore, and rejuvenate one of Nairobi’s most vital rivers—Ngong River.

Today, 11th July 2025, from 9:00 am to noon, we will gather at Kayole Police Station Section for a transformative event: the planting of 2,000 trees along the banks of the Ngong River. This initiative is a collaboration between NGAO, Climate WorX Initiative, and other passionate partners who believe that a greener Nairobi is not just a dream, but a responsibility.

Why Ngong River?

Ngong River is one of the key tributaries flowing through the eastern part of Nairobi, weaving through densely populated communities that heavily rely on it. Over time, unchecked dumping, industrial waste, and urban pressure have turned this once-beautiful river into a symbol of environmental crisis.

By planting trees along its banks, we are doing more than beautifying the area—we are:

  • Preventing soil erosion
  • Improving water quality
  • Restoring biodiversity
  • Creating green spaces for local communities
  • Combating climate change, one tree at a time

How You Can Be Part of This Mission

Whether you’re based in Nairobi or anywhere around the world, you can make a meaningful impact in one of the following ways:

1. Join Us in Person

Come plant trees with us on 11th July. Bring your friends, family, or colleagues. Let’s make it a morning of purpose and unity.

2. Plant a Tree from Where You Are

Can’t make it to Kayole? No problem. Choose a space—your backyard, school, church compound, or any community site—and plant a tree in solidarity. Share your photos with us and let’s inspire a global movement.

3. Support Our “Plant a Tree” Program

Your donation can help us reach more riverbanks, more schools, and more communities. Every contribution—big or small—goes into purchasing seedlings, tools, and supporting youth and volunteers on the ground.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”

Let’s make Nairobi breathe again. Let’s give Ngong River the second chance it deserves. And let’s do it—together.
