Rumuruti Team Sparks Environmental Transformation in Laikipia West
In a powerful two-day mission to restore the environment and cultivate a culture of sustainability, a dedicated tree seedlings production team based in Rumuruti kicked off an inspiring environmental education and tree planting initiative on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, in Laikipia West Subcounty. The campaign, done in partnership with Kenya Forest Service (KFS), was not just about planting trees—it was about planting hope, awareness, and a greener future.
At the heart of the mission was Ms. Terry Wairimu, a passionate Rumuruti-based forester, who not only facilitated the donation of 3,000 assorted indigenous and exotic seedlings but also physically accompanied the team in every planting site—motivating learners, teachers, and the clergy with her expert insights and unwavering zeal.
Thursday’s Highlights
The green movement began in Thome Location, where three major institutions opened their grounds to the transformation:
Thome Secondary School: 800 tree seedlings were firmly rooted into the soil by students, staff, and volunteers.
Chosen Generation Comprehensive School: 500 trees took new life as learners were educated on their vital role in climate action.
AIPCA Church in Thome: 200 trees were planted in a spirited collaboration between the faithful and foresters.
Friday’s Continuation (May 9th)
The momentum surged forward on Friday, with even more enthusiasm and unity:
North Tetu Comprehensive School: 800 seedlings found a home in this vibrant academic environment.
Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, Thome and Gospel Rescue Mission Comprehensive School: These spiritual and educational institutions jointly saw the planting of 500 trees, symbolizing a blend of faith, learning, and environmental stewardship.
Each tree was not just planted, but adopted, ensuring long-term care and nurturing—a significant step toward sustainability. The choice of both indigenous and exotic species was deliberate, balancing ecological restoration with adaptability to local conditions.
This initiative reflects a growing wave of environmental consciousness across Laikipia and beyond. Through this collaborative effort, Rumuruti’s team and KFS have shown that when institutions, communities, and nature join hands, transformation becomes not just possible but unstoppable.
Here’s to the green revolution, one seedling at a time.
