A Journey of Resilience
When I first met Leah Njeri at a large gathering of Descendants in Boiman, her quiet determination immediately drew my attention. She approached me with humility and courage, sharing her story and the challenges she faced living with a disability. Her situation was urgent, and we at Dedan Kimathi Foundation (DKF) knew we had to act swiftly.
Through our Settlement Programme, Leah was relocated to Rumuruti DKF Village in Thome, where she finally found a place to call home. Her new environment offers safety, dignity, and a sense of belonging something every Kenyan deserves. Leah’s spirit reflects the resilience of our people; despite her physical limitations, she continues to work hard and live with grace.
Leah’s home may be humble, but it stands as a beacon of transformation. It represents what DKF strives to achieve empowering individuals to rebuild their lives through compassion and opportunity.
Her daily life is not without challenges. When her knitting business slows down, she struggles to sustain herself and till her land. Yet, she never gives up. Her perseverance reminds us that empowerment is not just about providing shelter, it’s about nurturing independence and dignity.
